Local Homes
The borough's median home was built in 1975, and the 1980s and 1990s townhomes along the Penn Avenue corridor and in communities like Wyomissing Meadows and Stone Hill Farms usually still have the original sliding patio door leading out to the deck.
Permitting
When one is needed, the application goes to Wyomissing Borough Hall on Reading Boulevard, Kraft Municipal Group handles the building code review, and it takes several business days. We confirm the borough's requirement before your installation and help out with the paperwork.

Wyomissing Doors: What Makes This Market So Special
Wyomissing was designed before most of it was built. The textile industrialists behind the borough hired the planners Werner Hegemann and Elbert Peets in 1917 to lay out a garden suburb along the Wyomissing Creek, and the result is the old Wyomissing and Wyomissing Park you see today: deep lots, mature trees, and Colonial Revival, Tudor, and Craftsman houses that are now more than a hundred years old. Front entries here were part of the architecture. You’ll find solid-wood doors in arched stone openings, recessed vestibules, paired sidelights, and transoms, and a good number of them are the originals. A century of Berks County humidity has swollen the wood, the thresholds have settled, and the deadbolts are whatever the last owner put on. Replacing one of these means measuring the actual opening instead of ordering off a chart, then picking a fiberglass or wood door with divided-light glass and a stained finish that looks right against the stone. Done well, nobody notices it’s new. Done badly, the whole front of the house looks off.
Cross the railroad tracks into Berkshire Heights, or go up into Wyomissing Hills, and the houses are completely different. Berkshire Heights became part of the borough in 1949 and 1950 and is in the Wilson School District rather than Wyomissing Area. Wyomissing Hills was its own borough until the January 2002 merger. Both are post-war: ranches, capes, and split-levels with a plain front door and a side door or a door into the garage that gets most of the daily use. Many of these got a builder-grade steel door sometime in the 1980s or 1990s, and those are the ones we get calls about now. The bottom edge rusts where the sweep held moisture against it, the foam core is thin, and on a January morning the inside of the door is cold to the touch. An insulated fiberglass or steel entry system with an adjustable threshold fixes all three issues. And for the side door a plain, secure slab with a good lockset is usually the right choice.
The newer part of Wyomissing is a patio door market. Townhomes along the Penn Avenue corridor and in communities like Wyomissing Meadows and Stone Hill Farms went up in the mid-1980s through the 1990s, and most still have the original slider out to the deck. Forty years in, the rollers drag, the interlock leaks air, and the glass has usually fogged at least once. Here the decision is sliding versus hinged. A new slider keeps the same footprint and the same furniture layout. A hinged French unit gives you a wider clear opening and a different look, but it needs room to swing. If you aren’t sure which fits, our free in-home consultation covers both, and we’ll show you how the glass packages differ.
One more thing that’s specific to the borough: people in Wyomissing stay. The Wyomissing Area School District is one of the most sought-after in Berks County, the median home is worth well above the county figure, and owners tend to stay and invest rather than trade up. An entry door is one of the few upgrades that pays you back twice, on the monthly heating bill and on the curb appeal a buyer sees first. If you’re deciding between repairing or replacing a front door, or between fiberglass and steel, those two posts go through the math. And if the windows are on the list too, our window replacement in Wyomissing page covers the same neighborhoods from that side. Either way, every project we install in Wyomissing is backed by The Spring House Lifetime Promise.

Common Questions from Wyomissing Homeowners
Do I need a permit to replace my front door or patio door in Wyomissing?
It depends on the scope. In Pennsylvania, replacing an entry or patio door in its existing opening is generally exempt from a building permit, and a storm door added to an existing frame rarely needs one, but each municipality has its own rules. Widening the opening, adding sidelights, or changing the header is structural work and usually does need one. When a permit applies in Wyomissing, the application goes to Borough Hall on Reading Boulevard, Kraft Municipal Group does the review, and it takes several business days. We confirm the requirement for your project and help with the paperwork.
My house in old Wyomissing has an arched, non-standard door opening. Can you replace it without changing the look?
Yes. Many of the 1920s and 1930s homes in old Wyomissing and Wyomissing Park have openings that don’t match a stock door size. We measure the actual opening and order the unit to fit it, and for arched or transomed entries that can mean a custom-sized door with a matching arched transom above. Fiberglass with a wood-grain stain or a true wood door with divided-light glass will keep the proportions and the proper period look. The borough is probably not involved unless the opening itself changes.
Is there a federal tax credit for replacement doors right now?
Not currently. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C), which covered qualifying exterior doors as well as windows, expired at the end of 2025. Doors installed in 2026 do not qualify. If you had qualifying improvements placed in service on or before December 31, 2025, you may still be able to claim them on your 2025 return, but new installations this year are not eligible. We recommend confirming your situation with a CPA. There is no replacement federal credit for residential doors at this time.
How long does a door replacement project take?
Most residential door projects are completed in one to a few days, depending on the number of doors and any custom sizes. We confirm the schedule with you up front.
What is covered by your warranty?
You get the manufacturer’s product warranty plus the Spring House Lifetime Promise on the workmanship of your installation, for as long as you own your home.
